This is an AU story, using the cast of Final Fantasy VII. It’s a supernatural story, inspired by too much X-files, set in New York in our days. The story deals with shounen-ai / yaoi, but isn’t likely to get too graphic, because I can’t write good lemons… …The pairings are Sephiroth x Cloud, Cid x Vincent and Sephiroth x Vincent.

The characters doesn’t belong to me, no matter how much I wish otherwise. Instead, they’re the property of Squaresoft, who probably won’t really need to sue me, seeing how I am a broke student while they are a giant company.

Oh, and Vincent is a vampire in this. I know that’s not canon, but this is an AU…

Hybrid: Yes, I’ll bring all the Weapons, eventually.

This chapter is dedicated to all that, like me, think Hojo had a good reason for his behavior.

Sephiroth was lying on his stomach on the bed, basking in the moonlight, which came through the skylight. He had a book in front of him, open, but he wasn’t really reading. It was slightly chilly, so he had tied a deep green silk scarf around his neck, and stolen an ornate needle from Vincent to fasten it with. Not that it did much good, as he wasn’t wearing anything else. His long hair like polished silver in the moonlight, while his skin was a gleaming creamy color.

He lifted his eyes to look into the mirror on the other side of the room, and smiled lazily. He looked stunning and he knew it. His eyes shone with a brilliant color, green with a slightly bluish taint. Against the black silk sheets of the bed, he looked like an angel just descended from heaven. He was anything but, of course.

A noise in the other room informed him that Vincent was back. Sephiroth smiled, and turned his attention back to his book, which was interesting enough, if he bothered to pay attention. Shortly after, the door slid up, and Vincent Valentine came into the room.

The ex-bodyguard had pulled his black hair into a loose ponytail, was wearing a red jacket and black pants, and had a pair of sunglasses tucked into the red bandana he wore, even if it was close to midnight. His red eyes were gleaming slightly in the moonlight, and he had a serene smile on his face.

“What are you reading?” he asked, pulling out a chair for himself. Sephiroth smiled, and closed the book. “Just a book,” he said looking at his best, and only, friend. Vincent smiled back, and looked at the book. “Lord of the Rings? I didn’t realize that you liked fantasy,” he said, quietly. Then again, Vincent was almost always quiet. Sephiroth grinned slightly. “It’s fun when you manage to concentrate…” Again the shadows of a faint smile could be seen on the vampire’s face, but then he got a serious expression.

“I felt her tonight. You were right. Jenova is in this area somewhere.” He ran his mechanic hand through his hair. Sephiroth sat up, his hair falling around him like a waterfall. He looked at his friend. “I know. I can still feel her.” Vincent lowered his head slightly. “Do you suppose that Hojo is here too?” he asked. Sephiroth grimaced. “Oh, I’m sure he is. He’s not the type to give up a ‘specimen’ as perfect as Jenova.”

Vincent smiled again, and lifted his head. However, this smile was not the friendly kind he’d given Sephiroth earlier. This was a little half-smile that looked thoroughly chilling and quite mad. “I certainly hope so, Sephiroth. I really want to see him again.” Sephiroth had a feeling that before long, whoever Hojo was working for would have to scrape him off the wall. It suited him just fine. There was no love lost between the two of them and the scientist at all.

Hojo looked up at Jenova. She was floating in a tank above his desk. He frowned when he saw the look on her face. She looked distracted, almost happy, and her dark eyes were focused on something far away. Something she wanted. Hojo felt a sting of jealousy. Jenova was his, he had always given her everything she wanted. Usually, she would be delighted with his little gifts.

During the years he had known Jenova, she had become his only confidant. It was her he had talked to when he was unsure that he had been doing the right thing. It was for her he had made his creatures, horrible puppets for her to play with. It was to her he had sacrificed his wife so that she could have a body.

Hojo had sacrificed everything for her, for Jenova. All he wanted in return was to be acknowledged by her. Not ignored, like he was now. He was going to get her back. He knew what she was looking for, the silver-haired creature he’d seen when she had shared her memories with him. He was going to bring the creature to Jenova. If he did, she would come back to him. She wouldn’t have a choice.

Smiling, Hojo opened some of the cages he kept his specimen in. He would send these after the creature. “Find the creature known as Sephiroth!” he told them, and watched as they left. Jenova would be proud of him.
