This is an AU story, using the cast of Final Fantasy VII. It’s a supernatural story, inspired by too much X-files, set in New York in our days. The story deals with shounen-ai / yaoi, but isn’t likely to get too graphic, because I can’t write good lemons… …The pairings are Sephiroth x Cloud, Cid x Vincent and Sephiroth x Vincent.

The characters doesn’t belong to me, no matter how much I wish otherwise. Instead, they’re the property of Squaresoft, who probably won’t really need to sue me, seeing how I am a broke student while they are a giant company.

Some days, Cloud Strife hated his job. This was one of those days. He was the top agent in the Agency, a secret organization who was dedicated to investigating supernatural crimes around the world. In fact, it was so secret that only its employees knew about it, and not even all of them knew about it. Of all the employees, only a few selected knew who their leader was. Cloud knew, but he just didn’t care.

Today, he’d been sent to investigate a murder. The message had told him that someone had been killed and where to find the scene of crime. What they hadn’t told him was that the dead guy had been smeared all over his apartment and left as an obvious warning to someone.

Cid Highwind, his partner, came over to him, looking rather green. “Jesus! Whoever killed this bastard sure fucked him up real bad. It’s the worst fucking thing I’ve ever seen!” Cloud shook his head. Cid, he had learned during the month he’d known him, was an able agent, but he couldn’t go for a minute without swearing.

“I’ve seen worse,” he said, mentally taking “pictures” of the scene, remembering every detail. Cid looked at him, eyes wide in disbelief. “Worse than this? No fucking way!” Cloud had to laugh at the expression on his partner’s face. “Have you ever met Prof. Hojo? Not? Well, one of his experiments escaped. It made a real mess. Killed seventeen people before we got it back.” Cid went pale. Combined with his already green color, he looked very sick. “Shit! What did you do to the fucking thing?” Cloud shrugged. “Nothing. We weren’t allowed to kill it. I guess Hojo still has it in his lab somewhere. I never go down there unless I can’t help it.”

Cid swore under his breath and turned back to the corpse, or what was left of it, anyway. Cloud grimaced and bent down to examine a long strand of flesh lying on the floor. It looked like it might have been part of the victim’s back once. “The murder weapon must have been extremely sharp,” he thought, poking the bit of flesh with a ballpoint pen. It loosened from the floor and three parallel lines became visible, deep gashes in the flesh. Cloud swore, and called Cid over. “See this?” Cid nodded and Cloud grimaced again. “That’s claw marks. I’ve never seen a creature with claws that big before. Seems like we have to pay Professor Hojo a visit.”

Cloud had never liked Hojo. The scientist was creepy, and as far as Cloud knew, insane. He had a lab in the Agency’s Science Dome, where he seemed to have breeding the most dangerous creatures he could think of as a goal in life. The other scientists claimed that he hadn’t been the same since his wife had died in a lab accident, but Cloud doubted that he’d ever been normal. Still, there was no way to deny that Hojo was brilliant, if nothing else.

When Cloud and Cid came waltzing into his lab, he was standing by a large glass-tank, eyeing the creature inside critically. The creature was large, scaled and had four powerful arms, each ending in a vicious looking claw. Cid stopped abruptly, staring at the tank. “What the fuck is that?” he asked, eyes wide. Hojo turned calmly, looking at them with an annoyed expression.

“Exactly what is so important that you had to come all the way down here, Strife? You are upsetting my specimens.” That was true, Cloud realized, all the creatures down here were moving around in their tanks, twisting like creatures out of a nightmare. He lifted his head so he could look the professor straight in the eyes, and yet again wished that he were taller. Even Hojo, who wasn’t exactly a big man, was taller than Cloud, although not by much.

“Some creature went rampant back in town. The style of the murder is very similar to that of one of your specimen. Have you misplaced any of them?” Cloud asked, his voice cold. He really didn’t like Hojo. The scientist snorted. “I do not ‘misplace’ my specimen, Strife. The only reason for the escape of the last, was that my assistant got careless,” he said, adjusting his glasses.

Cid, who had been staring at the creatures in horror, spoke up. “So where is your fucking assistant now?” he asked. Hojo turned towards him, a stern look on his face. “Highwind, isn’t it? I don’t care for your language, Highwind. Do try to control yourself.” Cloud shook his head again. “No use trying to get him to stop swearing, professor. Just answer the question, please.” Hojo adjusted his glasses again, a look of almost sadistic amusement on his face. “I’m afraid that Jenova ate her, Strife. A most unfortunate accident, really.”

Cid was looking a bit queasy again. “What the fuck is Jenova?” This got a smile from Hojo, and Cloud wished that he hadn’t asked. Hojo looked psychotic when he smiled like that. “Jenova,” Hojo said, “is my prime specimen. I would have shown her to you, but I don’t think you have the time.” Cloud tool the opportunity at once. “No professor, I am afraid we don’t.” He grabbed Cid’s arm and dragged him out of the lab.

In the elevator on the way up from the underground lab, Cid looked oddly at Cloud. “Why didn’t you let him show us that fucking Jenova?” he asked. Cloud closed his eyes and pinched his nose-bridge, trying to let his sneaking headache take over. “I’m really not in the mood to spend to much time around Hojo. I don’t like him, and I don’t like Jenova.”  Cid leaned against the wall. “What the hell is Jenova, anyway?”  Cloud shrugged, opening his eyes. “I’m not sure. She’s some kind of alien, and Hojo guards her as if she was a national treasure. Basically, she’s a blue female creature in a tank.” Cid shivered slightly. “Sounds fucking creepy if you ask me,” he grunted.

Cloud nodded. “They both are. Let’s go dump our rapport in the office, shall we?” Cid nodded and lit a cigarette.
